Skills of Roadmapping
There are 4 core skills you and your team need to master in order to continue maturing at roadmapping. In this guide, you’ll find a breakdown of each skill and tips on how to apply it to your own roadmapping strategy.
Initiative Generation
This is where you turn the gaps you’ve identified into a list of initiatives to address those gaps. In the end, every item on your roadmap should be able to be mapped back to a specific gap. This is an exercise you can do with your team, which will give you the benefit of multiple perspectives and ideas.
Buy-In & Measurement
Getting buy-in for the roadmapping process will unify your team and turn them into advocates of the roadmap itself. If this is your first time building a roadmap, it will likely require some adjustment across the organization, and you’ll need the RevOps team to help drive that change. Being able to measure the impact of the roadmap and the work being done will also help create that buy-in.
Prioritization
In order to plan initiatives strategically on your roadmap, you first need to prioritize them by impact. Think about your business’ North Star and the goals you’ve established as a team, and let those things inform your prioritization process.
Utility
Utility requires a commitment to keep revisiting and updating your roadmap regularly. Without proper utility, your roadmap can’t serve as a source of truth and alignment for your revenue team, so we recommend putting a meeting cadence in place early to ensure consistency and help build the utility muscle.
